Portsmouth Engagement Session with Maureen + Paul
Happy New year everyone! What a great way to kick off 2016- With a blog post from my recent (and chilly) Portsmouth Engagement session with Maureen and Paul! They actually live in Houston Texas (well.. that’s changing as you will read below!)- but they are getting married up here in New Hampshire! Which is great news for me- because I am the photographer who will be on hand to capture their big day. (Which will be this coming September!)
When Maureen told me they were flying to NH for the holidays- she asked if it were to be possible to have an engagement session in Portsmouth. ME: “Um… Yes Please!” I was ecstatic! I have been wanting to have a session at the beach for quite some time now! (and… I have another one coming up in a week! Hooray! ) We started off meeting at Strawberry Banke and then finished up our session at the beach… which was the very same beach where Paul attempted to say ” I Love you” for the first time. I say attempted because it didn’t quite work out that way. ha (It’s a sweet story of a boy getting nervous to tell the girl his true feelings. )
Maureen and I totally hit it off from the get-go- is that we are both high energy and bubbly! It’s pretty awesome that she can follow my crazy stories that get detoured every time a new thought pops into my head. Ha!! And Paul- he’s is very “go with the flow” and for that reason, he reminds me much of my husband Brian.
I have to say that I’m impressed because currently, these two are in the midst of a massive relocation from Texas to California!! Why you may ask?! Well, it’s so Maureen can attend STANFORD for her MBA! (If that’s not impressive I don’t know what is?!) They are hoping to be sharing the same zip code by March! As I get to know my couples throughout the wedding planning process- I ask them some questions. Below are their answers!

As a recent college graduate, I (Maureen) was looking for a job and a close friend recommended reaching out to Paul about a posting at his company in New York. So I sent my resume and showed up for an interview. I must have done something right because I got the job! Little did I know that three months later I’d be going on dates with my handsome co-worker.

We had a few dates that Maureen might not have known were dates (she might be a little slow on the uptake), including a hike, a haunted house, a walk in Central Park and finally a dinner in the city. Paul thought he was doing a good job indicating his interest by purchasing wine off the romantic section at dinner, and Maureen finally caught on when he decided to stick around afterward to watch Finding Nemo (not very many other adults would willing classify that as their favorite movie)

On a vacation in the Adirondack mountains in July 2014, both the Gaj and Cappello families were planning to visit the area on the same weekend. Paul took the opportunity to propose on a Thursday night, by scheduling some one-on-one time with Maureen in the form of a hike up scenic Mt. Jo. Maureen realized that there was champagne in the picnic basket when they got to the summit, and Paul pulled a small black box from underneath the pickle jar. A few hours later, we told our parents at the same time on a scenic overlook on Saranac Lake and both families had the rest of the weekend to celebrate.

I (Maureen) has had dreams of going to the Maldives before they disappear under water due to global warming, so we hope to make it to those lovely islands sometime in the year after we get married.
