October 12, 2024, was a day that captured the hearts of Ben and Katie forever. On this crisp fall afternoon, the couple celebrated their engagement at Boston Common, a place steeped in history, romance, and breathtaking autumn views. Their love story, full of serendipity and joy, was now sealed with a promise as they strolled hand-in-hand through the park. Surrounded by vibrant hues of orange and yellow, this day was truly magical.
Ben and Katie’s story didn’t begin in Boston, but it has led them here, to this significant day. Their journey started in North Carolina, where they met in college. Though they were acquaintances at first, it wasn’t until their junior year that something clicked. Both were studying abroad in Copenhagen, a city known for its winding canals and charming streets. By a stroke of luck, they lived near each other during their time there. As they explored new lands, cultures, and experiences, their connection grew deeper.
“When we got back to campus, we were inseparable!” Katie recalls, smiling. From that point on, they knew they had something special. Now, they stand together at Boston Common, ready to capture another chapter of their lives, beautifully captured in their engagement session.
Located at 139 Tremont St, Boston, MA, Boston Common is the oldest public park in the United States, spreading across 50 acres of lush greenery and historic landmarks. It’s a place where history and modern life blend seamlessly, making it a perfect backdrop for engagement photos. Bordered by five major streets—Tremont Street, Park Street, Beacon Street, Charles Street, and Boylston Street—Boston Common is at the heart of the city. As one walks through its vast landscape, you can see people relaxing on the grass, tourists enjoying the park’s monuments, and locals walking their dogs.
On this October afternoon, the Common was dressed in fall splendor. The leaves had begun their colorful transformation, creating a golden canopy over the park. The cool breeze, the crunch of leaves underfoot, and the soft, late afternoon light provided the perfect ambiance for Ben and Katie’s engagement photoshoot.
As their love deepened over the years, it was only a matter of time before Ben popped the question. Fast forward to a day in Chicago, a city they once called home. It was an ordinary day, or so Katie thought. They were heading toward their favorite donut shop, something they often did on weekends. But as they wandered through Millennium Park, a place they frequently visited together, something extraordinary happened.
Ben dropped to one knee and asked the question that would change their lives forever. “It was completely empty,” Katie recalls, “just us, the city, and the moment.” With no one around to witness the private proposal, it felt like their little secret, tucked away in the heart of the Windy City. “I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect way for him to ask,” she says, beaming at the memory.
Now, standing together in Boston Common, they were ready to capture this new chapter of their love story. Each photograph was a memory—a piece of their journey together.
Every great love story has a beginning. For Ben and Katie, their first official date was considered epic. Back in college, they decided to go to a Zac Brown Band concert—an evening that would set the tone for their adventurous relationship.
“We bought the cheapest tickets we could find,” Ben laughs. But when they arrived at the venue, fate intervened once again. They were offered an upgrade to the pit for just a small upcharge. Without hesitation, they seized the opportunity and found themselves right in the front row. The concert was electric, and the experience was unforgettable. “We had the most fun night dancing and singing along to every song,” Katie says. It’s still one of their favorite memories to look back on.
As the sun began to set over Boston Common, Ben and Katie’s engagement session was perfection. The lush green lawns of the park, now speckled with fallen leaves, created a romantic atmosphere. Every corner of the Common had its own unique charm, from the historic Parkman Bandstand to the serene Frog Pond. The couple, accompanied by their beloved fur-buddy Quinn, laughed and twirled through the park as I, their photographer captured the candid joy of the day.
Their love of exploring new places, whether it’s through a Friday coffee walk or a weekend getaway, was clear as they wandered through Boston’s oldest park. Each step felt like a reflection of the life they’ve built together—one filled with spontaneity, adventure, and shared experiences.
What makes Ben and Katie’s relationship truly special is how they balance their shared passions with their individual interests. Their Friday coffee walks have become a beloved tradition. Every week, without fail, they take Quinn for a morning walk and explore a new coffee shop together. It’s a small ritual that brings them closer, allowing them to savor life’s simple pleasures.
But they also enjoy their separate hobbies. Ben is an avid golfer, while Katie finds joy in running. Despite their busy schedules, they always make time for each other and for the things they love. Whether it’s a quiet walk with a cup of coffee or a weekend road trip, they find ways to make every moment count.
As their engagement shoot at Boston Common came to an end, Ben and Katie couldn’t help but reflect on how far they’ve come. From meeting in college, to studying abroad in Copenhagen, to building a life together in Chicago and now Boston, their love story is one for the ages.
This fall day at Boston Common was just the beginning of a new chapter in their journey. With every click of the camera, their future together became a little more tangible. Soon, they’ll be standing at the altar, ready to start the next adventure hand in hand.
As the last rays of sunlight filtered through the trees, Ben and Katie shared one final kiss, their love for each other evident in every glance, every smile. It was the perfect end to a perfect day—a day that captured not just their engagement, but the essence of their journey together. A love story that began with a chance meeting in North Carolina, blossomed in Copenhagen, and will continue to grow, rooted in the rich history of Boston.
