If you know me, you already know that one of the things I genuinely enjoy about being a wedding photographer is listening to real love stories. Miranda and Andrew had a particularly amazing one, which actually involved Taylor Swift! With amazing lighting and great photography spots coupled with a chill and fun-loving couple, Miranda and Andrew’s engagement session felt less like work and more like a bonding session with friends. It was clear from the start that these two were madly in love with each other. And with these lovebirds – no matter where we went or what we did – I could always feel the love in the air!
My beautiful couple met when they were in university in 2013 – Miranda’s freshman year and Andrew’s third. They recalled, “It was at the first quidditch team practice on the university’s quad. We didn’t talk too much initially but were introduced by a teammate. We then would see each other at team practices and meetings and when Miranda went to tutoring sessions where Andrew was a chemistry tutor.”
Fast forward to May of 2016, when they had their first date. The couple told me, “We had been friends for a few years and grew close over Andrew’s last semester on campus.” Andrew grew the confidence to ask Miranda to go on an official date with him after moving back home at the end of the spring semester. “Our first date was at Lake Pawtuckaway in New Hampshire. We went on a nature walk and chatted while holding hands. Andrew wrote a letter expressing how he felt and read it at the peak of a trail. We then returned to Miranda’s parent’s place, ate some Chinese food, and watched a movie together,” they added.
When I asked Miranda how she knew Andrew was “The One”, Miranda promptly replied, “I had made a foolish mistake – I overslept on my flight to Las Vegas to visit my grandparents. Unfortunately, there were no available flights for me to get on. The airline sent me to Seattle on standby and promised I would be able to get to Las Vegas from there. Of course, when I arrived, there were no available flights from Seattle to Las Vegas, so I was effectively stranded. As a poor grad student, I didn’t have the money to switch flights or book a normal ticket. Andrew was my knight in shining armor. He got me set up on another flight and told me it would be okay. I knew then that he would always have my back, even when I messed up. My hero!”
Recalling the moment they decided to get married, Andrew said, “To be honest, there was no official proposal! Miranda was spending the summer in DC for an internship for her grad school program but came home to attend the Taylor Swift concert. We had attended another Taylor Swift concert together before dating, so it felt really special. We went a little overboard on the margaritas, and Miranda said, “Let’s get married!” She was entirely serious, though, and insisted that we get married multiple times throughout the concert.” Honestly, if you ask me, a Taylor Swift concert does sound like a pretty legit place to decide to get married.
I had an amazing time shooting Miranda and Andrew’s engagement session in Hancock. It was such a perfect day for their engagement photo shoot. The light was just perfect for my light and airy photography, and there were plenty of spots that had great backdrops for their couples portraits.
I love a little bit of fun during engagement sessions, and I love it, even more, when my couples are up for it! These two were definitely lighthearted and goofy, and we had a blast playing various games. We started off with a little role-playing, where they each had to pretend to be the other person, and then Simon Says, where one would choose funny movements and gestures for the other to do during their individual portraits. It was pretty funny! But all in all, it was great to see them laughing and enjoying themselves throughout the session.
I love creative details too, so when my couple gave me a heads up about Miranda’s ring, I had already decided to take a few detail shots of the ring too. It was a combination of their birthstones: The center stone was a ruby for Andrew’s birthday, surrounded by diamonds for Miranda’s. It was stunning, and the photos reflect that perfectly!
Miranda and Andrew were having the time of their lives. They were laughing and joking, and they seemed so in love. I couldn’t help but photograph them as they danced together. They looked so beautiful and were so comfortable in front of the camera; I hardly had to give them any posing cues. They were just fine on their own. Miranda and Andrew, if you are reading this, I already know your wedding portraits are going to look STUNNING!
Miranda and Andrew, thank you so much for choosing me as your engagement session photographer. It was an honor to be able to capture such a special time in your lives. The session was great, and I’m so happy that everything turned out perfectly. I wish you both all the best for your future, and look forward to photographing your future milestones.
