Sarah & Jr’s Alyon’s Orchard Engagement Session
Alyson’s Orchard in Walpole is one venue I love going back to for weddings and engagements. It’s an ideal location for taking romantic photographs, and my couples also end up loving the venue as much as I do. Recently, I photographed Sarah and Jr’s engagement session there. We had so much fun creating some amazing engagement photos (and memories) while surrounded by lush greenery and the peaceful environment that Alyson’s Orchard offers. Sarah and Jr are such sweethearts and like to keep it real, which is one of the many things I liked about this couple. I loved how these two were so comfortable letting me into their space, and instead of worrying about the photos or their poses, they just focused on making each other laugh and goofing around.
Sarah & Jr’s Story
Sarah & Jr met in homeroom in Keene High School. Oddly enough, they didn’t speak much until their junior year. This was the only “class” they had together, so they may not have even met had their last names not ended in ‘R’.
When I asked my beautiful bride-to-be about her first date with Jr, she told me, “Oh gosh, hardly a romantic date! Memorable though! We went to see a movie at Keene cinemas. He brought his cousin, and the movie was so bad that his cousin left halfway through, and I’m sure we thought about it too. The movie Warhorse does not come highly recommended by us, but I think it was the only halfway decent looking option, and in the month of January, date options are slim in NH.”
From that memorable date to the proposal day – things had clearly gone in the right direction. “Jr proposed on October 9th, 2020, on what will be the front steps of the home we have been building ourselves. I was so grumpy that morning and was in the worst outfit because we were packing to go up to Northern, NH,” Sarah told me.
By now, I know that everyone has some habits their partner finds funny or quirky. When I asked Sarah to share something similar about Jr, she exclaimed, “There are so many things! I’m sure if I shared most of my favorite things, it would cause a level of embarrassment for Jr… haha, but I love his goofiness. It might drive me mad in some instances, but when it’s not there, I miss it. I like to think that he feels the same way.” I mean, if that’s not adorable, what is!
Fun fact about these two: They love going on four-wheeler rides and living the life of a small country couple. I found that to be so endearing.
Alyson’s Orchard Engagement Photography
Before I have engagement sessions at Alyson’s, I take my couples to Spencer’s Place in downtown Walpole. It’s like a tradition for me now. The food is good, and the staff is friendly. This helps my couples relax before the shoot and also just think of it as a fun session instead of a big shoot where they have to be or pose like someone else. Also, this way, they get to know me better. Since it’s tradition now, I took Sarah and Jr to the same place and spent some time getting to know them before the shoot.
My couple’s chemistry just shined through, and my goal was to document that in the most authentic way. And Alyson’s Orchard sure helps to turn up the romance. From the photos with the verdant grounds in the backdrop to the ones where my couple is engrossed in some ‘duck watching’, for me, Sarah and Jr did a spectacular job in front of the camera. I absolutely adored how comfortable these two were with each other.
