Engagement Sessions
Engagement sessions are downright fun. And here we have a Winter Engagement Session at Alyson’s Orchard!!
This is the time when the three of us can get together, have a drink and relax. Additionally- it’s also the perfect opportunity to create some awesome portraits, in a relaxed environment, without the stresses of a wedding day.
Being a Wedding Photographer, I have a wonderful opportunity to provide my awesome couples with pretty photos. But …I also have the best time creating a genuine relationship and heavily focusing on the experience my couples have. Getting photos that you will love first stems from creating a trustworthy connection. The rest falls into place naturally.
So, here I am! I’ll be talking all about Jeanette and Andrew and their Winter Engagement Session at Alyson’s Orchard!

How did you guys meet?
We met on Hinge (dating app) and connected through a mutual friend.
Tell us about your first date!
We met up for drinks at a bar in midtown. It was just before the holidays. Jeanette was running late due to traffic from “the tree” but made it. (Andrew thought this sounded about as imaginative an excuse. Like “the dog ate my homework“, but the story checked out when she explained it was the Rockefeller tree).
Tell us about the Proposal!
We went on a trip to Norway, including to an island chain in the northern part of the country called Lofoten which Jeanette had always wanted to go to. It’s north of the arctic circle and daylight 24 hours a day in the summer while we were there. On that part of the trip, we went on a hike which included a series of obstacles along the way such as crossing a river, rappelling down a rock face with a chain-link rope, and dealing with some very muddy conditions. And when we got to the top of the peak overlooking a series of alpine lakes and peaks, Andrew proposed. We then went into the small fishing village nearby and got a drink to celebrate.
What do you guys do for fun? (Together as a couple)
We like to travel and explore new places together. Whether on a trip or around our own city. Additionally, we like to try new restaurants, foods, and check out the history of wherever we are. We also like to be active. Especially going for hikes together or going to the occasional spin class. (We also tried yoga, but the jury is still out there).
How about individual hobbies?
Andrew likes to watch college sports. (football and basketball) He is a die-hard Michigan Wolverines fan. He also likes to read non-fiction. Especially anything with some interesting history.
Jeanette likes to cook. Sometimes following the recipe, and sometimes making it up as she goes. She’s also very much into skiing. and now skis with Andrew. (Who recently learned how to ski (Jeanette was very patient throughout his learning).
Does either of you have funny quirks or habits? (That drives the other nuts? haha)
Jeanette always makes a big mess in the kitchen but is worth it as the food always turns out great. Andrew is notorious for making a huge mess everywhere else.
How are the wedding plans coming along?
We are looking forward to having a fun and memorable day. (With friends and family.) The plan is for the wedding to have a rustic but classic vibe. And, we are incorporating Jeanette’s childhood church into the day!
The major items are in place for the wedding but we still have many little details to sort out as we get closer to the wedding.
As you are actively planning a wedding- can you offer any advice to other couples?
Trust your gut. There were a few occasions where we thought we had our mindset on a path forward, but something just didn’t sit right about it. We knew that in the beginning but where we tried to force it to work we eventually ended up landing where our gut told us in the first place.
What are your professions?
Andrew works in consulting and often travels to visit with clients. Jeanette is in sales for a financial technology firm.
