If there’s one thing that never gets old as a photographer, it’s documenting a couple who are truly themselves. Sarah and Scott’s engagement session on June 18, 2025, at the Kimpton Taconic Hotel, was everything an engagement photographer dreams of. Warm, relaxed, and full of inside jokes and sweet glances, this day was less about posing and more about just being—together.
Set against the lush backdrop of the Taconic Mountains, the Kimpton Taconic Hotel offers a fresh yet classic New England vibe. With its wide porches, curated interiors, and cozy corners, it’s easy to see why it’s been named one of the “Top 10 Resort Hotels in the Northeast” by Travel + Leisure. But on this particular Wednesday, the charm of the place didn’t hold a candle to Sarah and Scott.
Before we get into the golden light and quiet giggles, let’s rewind. Sarah and Scott are a Hinge success story—one of those rare couples who swiped right and actually found the real thing. Though both went to college in Boston (Sarah at BU and Scott at Northeastern), their paths didn’t cross until the summer of 2021.
Their first date was at Committee, a buzzy spot in Boston’s Seaport District. Scott arrived 30 minutes early, sweaty from the heat and nerves, and managed to bond with the bartender over the first-date jitters. Sarah showed up just a touch late, impressed to find Scott had claimed premium bar seats. Drinks turned into hours of conversation. COVID restrictions meant there was nowhere else to go, but they weren’t ready for the night to end. In fact, they’ve basically been inseparable since.
The proposal didn’t take place under a grand arch or in front of a crowd. It happened at home—just Scott, Sarah, and their dog Ollie. Scott had planned for a weekend proposal in Charlestown, but work schedules had other plans. Instead, he pivoted. While Sarah was at work, he set the stage with rose petals, candles, and hours of rehearsing how to kneel without falling over. When Sarah came home and opened the door, there he was—nervous, hopeful, and already emotional.
Through teary eyes, Sarah said yes. The story could’ve ended there, but Scott had more surprises up his sleeve. Their families were waiting at a nearby bar, ready to toast to the newly engaged couple. That mix of quiet intimacy and big celebration feels like the perfect summary of these two.
Now, fast forward to the engagement shoot. Manchester, Vermont in June is a breath of fresh air—literally and creatively. The Kimpton Taconic Hotel, surrounded by mountains and wrapped in charm, was the ideal setting for this session. With its wraparound porches, historic New England feel, and curated design, the venue is both refined and relaxed. You can tell it was built for weekends away, big celebrations, and—lucky for me—photogenic moments.
We started our session on the front lawn, where the golden-hour light filtered through the trees just right. Sarah and Scott perfectly captured a relaxed yet effortlessly chic vibe for their engagement session. Sarah looked radiant in a charming denim or chambray midi dress, featuring sweet puff sleeves and a button-front detail that added a touch of casual elegance. Its soft blue hue beautifully complemented the natural outdoor setting.
Scott opted for a smart-casual look, sporting a light-colored (perhaps cream or off-white) textured polo shirt that offered a lovely contrast to Sarah’s dress. He paired it with classic khaki or brown trousers and a stylish watch, completing a polished yet comfortable ensemble These two were naturals in front of the camera, mostly because they weren’t trying to perform. They were just… them. Laughing. Teasing. Pausing to pet Ollie.
Oh right—Ollie was there too. Their mini Australian Shepherd, who basically thinks he’s the star of the show. And, honestly? He kind of was. There’s something incredibly special about photographing a couple and their dog—especially one who sheds Aussie fur with reckless abandon and still manages to look adorable.
Sarah and Scott are the kind of couple who balance each other out. She’s thoughtful and witty, with a love for cooking (especially gluten-free recipes), good books, and learning about wine. He’s curious and grounded, with a deep appreciation for music, film photography, and—randomly but delightfully—sunglasses.
Together, they love to travel. London is their favorite city, but they’re also right at home skiing down Vermont slopes or doing a cozy movie night on the couch. Their bond is quiet but strong—the kind that you feel more than you see.
During the shoot, they shared stories about planning the wedding, about how they’re most excited to just get everyone in the same room for a really great party. They’ve been organized from the jump—vendors locked in early, shared email for all things wedding, and a budget plan that includes more buffer than panic. If you’re planning your own wedding, take a note from these two: overprepare early, so you can relax later.
Engagement sessions can sometimes feel like a rehearsal, but this one was different. It was just a chance for Sarah and Scott to be in a place they loved, doing something that felt natural. We walked around the property, found little spots where the sun hit just right, and let the day unfold. They danced barefoot on the lawn. They took turns fixing each other’s hair. They let their guard down, and it showed in every single frame.
And that’s what makes the Engagement at Kimpton Taconic Hotel, so special. The place adds a certain quiet magic, sure. But it’s couples like Sarah and Scott who bring the energy. Who turn a Wednesday afternoon into something worth remembering.
With the big day ahead, Sarah and Scott are in that sweet spot of planning where most of the heavy lifting is done and the fun stuff begins. Design, details, and daydreams. Their wedding is shaping up to be a mix of heartfelt moments, a packed dance floor, and probably a few dog hairs on everyone’s outfits.
And as their photographer, I’m so excited to be along for the ride. These two bring a calm confidence to everything they do—proof that a strong relationship isn’t about perfection, but presence.
So here’s to the countdown. To more walks with Ollie, more late-night kitchen dance parties, and to that moment when they look around the room on their wedding day and realize—everyone they love is right there.
