Man!! I love engagement sessions at Cathedral of the Pines!! And I love how each couple has their own special personalities that come out during their sessions. Another thing I did, is when a couple can just let go of expectations and just “be them”.
Well- that’s how it was with Ann and Matt! I immediately fell in love with these two as we were enjoying some drinks at the Woodbound Inn, before heading over to their Engagement session at the Cathedral of the Pines!
I personally really enjoyed Matt’s dry sense of humor, and the way he and Ann had a subtle, yet loving sarcasm about them. It was so apparent just how comfortable they were with each other.
Ann was open about being a little nervous for the session. (Which is so totally normal!!) But I witnessed first hand just how Matt put her nerves at ease!
These two will be getting married next April at the BVI! I’m so excited that I get a chance to be a part of their wedding day adventure! So why don’t I share with you a few images from their fun engagement session at the Cathedral of the Pines!
We met through mutual friends almost ten years ago at a housewarming party that Anne and her roommates were hosting. We didn’t interact much that night, but kept hanging out with the same people and quickly became close friends. Ann and I were friends for three years before we got together, even though Matty had a thing for Anne all along.
Neither one of us can pinpoint a specific first date. The first few months of our relationship we were keeping it quiet from all of our friends so some of our favorite memories are from when we were sneaking around and acting as if nothing was going on.
Matty planned to propose right before Christmas. He decided to do it the night that Anne was having her college roommates over for a get together (they live all over and are never in one place at the same time). Before everyone arrived, Matty enlisted their friend Teddy to help stage a Christmas card picture on the front steps. It was pouring rain and Anne was wearing her ugliest Christmas sweater and goofy rain boots, and she was concerned with getting the house ready for guests. She was less than enthused about the timing and taking the picture in the rain (or in her ugly Christmas sweater). Matty insisted and said that he and the dog were going to take a Christmas card picture and she didn’t have to be in it, but they’d be outside if she wanted to join. Eventually, Anne agreed and went outside for the Christmas photo. Teddy was ready to take pictures and capture a video. Anne and Matty were standing on the front steps with the Christmas lights in the background and the dog barking wildly at every car that drove by. Matty got down on one knee and caught Anne completely off guard. At one point she said “what the f*** are you doing!?” and he responded with “sweetheart, I’m proposing.” She obviously said yes and they were able to surprise Anne’s friends and celebrate that night when they got there. In the days that followed they were able to surprise the rest of their friends and family and celebrate in person at Christmas.
We love to spend time with our families and friends and playing with our German Shepherd. We love playing games, reading, and the Boston Celtics. Anne loves cooking and Matty enjoys playing video games and music.
Anne either falls asleep or gets distracted by something else anytime they try to watch a movie.
Matty has a tendency to be late for everything.
Wedding plans are coming along great, we love our venue and can’t wait to get married and celebrate with everyone we love. We want our wedding to be elegant and rustic, while still being a fun dance party.
The biggest piece of advice would be to not sweat the small stuff. There will always be something that will go wrong, at the end of the day the important thing is that you and your significant other are happy and celebrating the way that will make you happy.
Anne is a school adjustment counselor at a high school. She also is a licensed mental health counselor. Matty is a strategy analyst for a global software firm.
