Alex & Patrick | Keene Engagement Session

I loooove engagement sessions! Getting to experiment with lighting, locations, poses, AND outfits? Sign me up! Through my job, I get introduced to and get to know so many couples and feel so honored to be a part of such an important time in their lives. Every time a new couple contacts me, they bring with them their own unique love story. And no matter how long ago they fell in love, each story is special and worth capturing. Alex and Patrick’s engagement session was a blast! The fall weather in Keene, New Hampshire, was beautiful and bright, and the trees doubled up at the perfect backdrops. Here’s a little glimpse of how it went.

Meet Alex and Patrick

Alex and Patrick’s love story began long before they even knew it. These two next-door neighbors have known each other and lived as friends for close to 20 years. They used to occasionally wave out to one another and catch up every few months over text. It wasn’t until recently that their relationship blossomed into something more.

Alex told me, “We started spending more time together in the fall of 2018”. I’ve always felt comfortable and never felt like I have to try to impress him”. She continued, “For the first few months when we started dating, I was always fresh out of the shower with no makeup and PJs on, and I never felt self-conscious about it”. The best relationships are the ones where you don’t have to pretend to be someone else, right?

Talking about their best date, Alex said, “It was a few nights away at Lake Winnipesaukee in the summer of 2019”. Patrick planned a fun surprise trip and booked a cozy place on the lake. And that was the moment when Alex realized that they were in a committed relationship. For fun, they love to visit their favorite restaurants on the weekend, enjoy traveling to new places, and watching an episode or two of Seinfeld together.

The Proposal Story

Alex and Patrick got engaged on 24th December 2021 – A true Christmas proposal. They were set to leave for two weeks in Hawaii, and everyone kept nudging Alex if it was “The Trip”. However, she didn’t want to get her hopes up. The day before leaving for their trip, Alex and Patrick had a jam-packed schedule as they had to visit their families.

After a long day of visiting, they came back home. Alex told me, “Patrick was pacing, and I could tell something was off. He mentioned something about an ornament on the Christmas tree, I stood up to look, and then he proposed in front of the tree with my mom, dad, and sister watching”.

It turns out Patrick wanted to propose before visiting their families! Alex continued, “I was rushing him too much (oops). We spent the best two weeks in Hawaii.” People planning to propose, this is a proposal technique worth noting down!

Engagement Session in Keene, NH

Alex and Patrick were the perfect mix of silly and laid-back. The fall colors were absolutely beautiful and made for the perfect backdrop to their engagement photos. It was the ideal sweater weather with bright orange and yellow leaves on the ground. Alex wasn’t really into the “mushy stuff”. Hah. So, I took a ton of photos of her laughing hysterically. Plus, her smile was so infectious, she was super cute!

Their engagement session was so simple yet magical. They were complete troopers, running around in the neighborhood with me and looking for the perfect spots for their engagement pictures. They also had an outfit change planned. In the second part of their session, they wore sweatshirts that had their wedding date embossed in Roman Numeral form. I got some really fun and silly photos of them wearing their customized sweatshirts, which was a real treat.

Alex and Patrick were such a joy to photograph. My couple was clearly head-over-heels in love with each other, and they were constantly smiling and laughing throughout the day. This made my job incredibly easy, as I was able to capture genuine moments of happiness.

Towards the end of the shoot, I asked the couple what they were looking forward to on their wedding day, and they responded, “We look forward to getting awesome pictures, dancing, and our purple velvet wedding cake!”

They also gave some advice to all couples currently planning their weddings, saying, “We’re trying not to stress over the little things. Keeping a ‘go with the flow’ attitude has been key in terms of stopping us from going crazy. We also remind ourselves that the people coming to our wedding want to be there because they love us and want to celebrate us”. And I agree with them 100%. Though wedding planning can get a bit hectic, it is important to remember to cut yourself some slack and just enjoy this new chapter in your life.
