Engagement Session at the Path of Life Garden

I’m all about “doing you” and owning your own “weird”. And I’m absolutely in love with couples who live by that same philosophy. As we go through this journey of life. . . we learn so many lessons. And with each passing day- I’m learning to embrace my own weirdness and to just “be”. If we can just learn to trust and live by faith… we can enjoy our time here. And I mean really enjoy it.

There’s nothing more beautiful than being around people who also do just that. We all have our own quirks. We all have our own insecurities and inner demons. But we also each have our own qualities that make shine. With each passing day- we learn lessons that are molding us into the beautiful souls that we are. Imperfections and all.

Path of Life Garden

“The Path of Life Garden is a landscape shaped by a revelation of the human spirit and inspired by our relationship with the natural world. Visitors travel through 18 works of art illustrating elements that constitute human life.” ~http://www.pathoflifegarden.com/. And this is one of Steph and Heath’s favorite spots. So they chose this for their engagement session.

These two, are so totally down to earth people who are real AND fun. Steph definitely has her own quirks that makes her all that more beautiful. From her love of purple to her open admittance of loving to be the center of attention… she is one who I fell in love with immediately. And Heath…. well he too is open, real and funny. So you can imagine the duo together…. they are a hoot!! From every conversation that we’ve had- I leave with sore cheeks. (Oh, because you know… excessive smiling causes those classic sore cheeks. ha)

They chose to have their engagement session at the Path of Life Garden in Windsor Vt. A venue that I haven’t been before- but it really spoke to who they are. Both as individuals and as a couple. I absolutely loved their sarcastic sense of humor and their incredible ways to make each other laugh. As I was editing their images… I couldn’t help but smile. The images we made are real, natural and authentic to who they are as a couple.

The romantic part of engagement sessions are not the ‘pretty pictures” that are made. But rather it’s the knowing that we made images that are reflective of the authentic nature of each couple. The silly smiles… the flirty glances… the sarcastic (yet loving) comments. They are all a part of the story. And they are all beautiful. How did you two meet?

We met on Myspace! We talked for 8 months before we met in person!

What did you do on your first date? (and was is fun, awkward, nervous etc)

Honestly, I don’t remember what our first date was, but I DO remember him showing up with a box of long-stemmed roses. Nobody had ever done that for me before. He was definitely charming! Tree of Wisdom at the Path of Life Garden in Windsor VT.

How did he propose?

We love to vacation in Maine, by the coast. Marginal Way (in Ogunquit) is a beautiful walk along the coast with benches here and there to enjoy the view, and we make sure to walk here every time we visit. One day we were sitting on one of the benches and Heath pretended to be picking something up off the ground and instead got down on one knee and proposed! It was the perfect setting!

What do you both do for fun? Hobbies?

Heath has a reef aquarium that I’m sure he’d love to go on and on…and on about. 🙂 I am a Doula, which I’m not sure is a hobby, but it is a very important part of my life. Helping a mother bring her child into the world is a feeling that cannot be described. It brings me to tears every single time! We also love anything that involves our dogs, Opie and Preston. I keep saying that after the kids move out we’re going to foster dogs, but in reality I’ll probably end up adopting them all. 🙂 Man and Woman giggle and laugh at the bank of a river in VT. during their engagement session.

Do either of you have funny quirks or habits that drives the other nuts? (HAHA)

I don’t understand why dirty socks can make it right next to the hamper, but not IN the hamper!!

How are the wedding plans coming along? What are your wedding day visions?

The wedding planning is going quite well. The big decisions have been made, vendors are locked in… the devil is in the details though! It’s hard not to get hung up on the little things. I’m sure there will be lots of moss, fairy lights, and PURPLE! River in VT.

As a couple who is currently actively planning your wedding- can you offer any advice to other couples? What would be your biggest piece of advice?

Remember that it is YOUR DAY. Do what will make you feel joyful in the moment. and as hard as it is, don’t sweat the small stuff! Nobody is going to notice if the flowers in your centerpiece aren’t the “just right” shade of your chosen color.

What do you both do for a living?
