The world is full of wonderful and unique love stories, and thanks to my profession, I get a chance to hear so many of them. Every story is sweet and lovely in its own way, and I feel honored that I get to not only connect with the protagonists of these real-life stories but also help them document their special moments through my photos. The location of our photo sessions also plays a major role in bringing out the bond my couples share. It sets the mood and highlights my couple’s personality in a way that it shines through in the images, just like the Hilton Head Island did for my amazing couple – Mary and Chad.
Mary is an ABC News Anchor in Albany, NY, while Chad and his family own a garbage company. And guess what! He was Mary’s garbage man (more on that later)! I did this session for my couple at the resort they were staying in – The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort, and together, we created gorgeous photos along with beautiful memories! The variety of backdrops that The Westin had to offer allowed me to compose gorgeous beach images as well as the ones around lush greenery. It was so much fun!
Like always, before I got to the location to photograph my beautiful couple, I asked them about their story to get to know them better and also understand their photography vision. And this is what my bride, Mary, told me, “We both went to Brattleboro Union High School but only got to know each other once I was in college. During a visit home, I met Chad at a party with friends and soon realized he was my family’s garbage man!”
She recalled, “Over the summer, I would sit out by the pool and wait for trash pickup day so we could chat. After spending a lot of time in group settings, Chad and I started dating. We went to the driving range and out for ice cream, kayaked, and hiked Putney Mountain. Our first dinner date was at the high-class restaurant called Chilies in Keene. LOL.” Mary and Chad, that’s an adorable and interesting story you’ve got! And seriously! Who would have thought that you’d get the love of your life right at your doorstep? Also, now I know why people say that if love comes knocking on your door, you better open that door!!! Hahaha.
And when did Mary realize that Chad was the one for her? “If he hadn’t already, I think he won over my extended family in Walpole, NH, when he took first prize in a big horseshoe tournament at the family dairy farm.” That’s super smart, Chad! Talk about winning over your ladylove – and impressing her family too!
Talking about the proposal, Mary told me, “Chad and I had planned an October weekend getaway at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, VT. The Sound of Music was my favorite movie growing up, so I’d always wanted to stay there. After a morning of anchoring snowstorm coverage on TV, we drove up to Stowe, admiring the ‘snowliage’ on the way. He popped the question on the balcony of our room overlooking the beautiful mountains with a ring that’s been in my family for more than 100 years. It was a lovely weekend of visiting breweries, hot tubbing, and long drives.” Mary and Chad, that’s beautiful, beautiful, and beautiful!!! And, so romantic!
[h2] The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort Engagement Photography
Mary and Chad are so cool, and photographing them was like having a fun day with friends. They were so photogenic and natural in front of the camera that they didn’t really need any posing instructions. Be it on the beach or the gardens inside The Westin, they were super relaxed and expressive about how they feel about each other. Whether it was a tight embrace, walking on the beach holding hands, or planting a gentle kiss – these two were so much into each other. As a photographer, this made me super happy and my work so much easier.
The two looks my couple chose for their engagement session also blended perfectly well with the surroundings and added so much charm to the images. The weather was excellent for my couple to spend some fun time at the beach, and the natural light was a bonus for my style of light and airy photography. With a couple as sweet and friendly as Mary and Chad, a breathtaking location, the most perfect lighting, refreshing surroundings, and lovely positive vibes, I literally had everything I could have craved for to create those mesmerizing images!
Mary and Chad, you two are such sweethearts. I loved being in your company, and taking photos of you two at The Hilton Head Island was a joy for me. Your resort, The Westin, was fabulous, and the backdrops it offered for our portraits were incredible. I hope you two love the photos we got during this session as much as I enjoyed creating them with you two. Thank you for trusting me with your engagement photography, and I look forward to more sessions with you in the future. Also, I wish you both lots of happy times together in Maine and Florida and all the other lovely places that you like to be in. Have the best time playing games on the beach, enjoy the sunset happy hours, and eat your heart out at your favorite spots – just the way you love.
