I love photographing weddings. There’s something about the way the light catches the bride or the way the groom gets teary-eyed when he sees his wife-to-be as she walks down the aisle. It’s always a great feeling to document my couples precious moments on their big day. And this wedding at Mountain Grand View in New Hampshire was extra special for me because I already knew the couple well and had worked with them before! I had the privilege of shooting Catherine and Michael’s engagement session at Alyson’s Orchard earlier. So when they contacted me to be the photographer for their wedding, I knew it was going to be amazing! They were such a fun couple to work with so I knew it was going to be a great experience, which it definitely was.
Catherine and Michael’s wedding was one for the books. I started the wedding day photographing the getting ready photos. As they were both getting ready, following tradition, they decided to open up gifts they had gotten for each other and it was so special to capture those moments.
My couple had a beautiful and intimate first look. From the moment they arrived, I could tell they were giddy with excitement and I’m so glad to have captured Michael’s priceless expression when he saw Catherine for the first time in her dress. It was pure love and excitement that was radiating from this happy couple. I also took a few photos outside with an epic backdrop of sweeping mountains in view. It was magical and serene all at once.
Catherine was a vision in her wedding dress, and Michael looked so handsome in his suit. They were both laughing and joking with their friends and family, and it was clear that they were enjoying themselves. To highlight their happiness, the couple wanted some truly fun and silly wedding party photos, so I made sure to get those as well!
The wedding venue was stunning and the lighting for the outdoor wedding ceremony was perfect for me to capture stunning photographs of the big day. From the gorgeous flower arrangements to the elegant table settings, my couple had clearly planned their wedding day perfectly, and it definitely showed in the photos. I knew from Catherine and Michael’s engagement that they were head-over-heels in love, and that love was shining brighter than ever on their wedding day. I remember Michael mentioning that he was looking forward to their wedding day to see Catherine walking down the aisle and trying to keep it all together. And it was really special to witness that moment when it happened – their love and happiness was so evident. During the ceremony, they couldn’t take their eyes off each other and it was beautiful.
One of the special highlights during the ceremony was when the couple used a beautiful flowered bowl called a ‘quaich’ to honor the Scottish Tradition of Quaich where, typically, a bowl or cup filled with alcohol would be passed between the couple and then to their guests and everyone would drink from it (there are various ways this can unfold). My couple chose to modify the tradition and they shared the drink from the quaich and then all the guests took a shot from their own shot glasses. Though my couple is not Scottish, they loved the idea of this because it was unique and fun!
After the ceremony I took the couples portraits. Catherine and Michael were constantly giggling and stealing kisses; these two were madly in love and it was evident throughout their wedding day, from beginning to end. I love weddings where the couples not only enjoy themselves but also put in the effort to make sure everyone else is having a great time too and this one definitely fit that description!
The wedding reception was incredible – everyone had a blast. The first dance was a beautiful moment, full of romance and the couple looked so happy together. From the first dance to the last toast, I captured some really stunning moments. The room was filled with people laughing and enjoying themselves the entire time. Towards the end, my couple ran through a shower of sparklers, surrounded by their loved ones, all cheering and well-wishing them to a lifetime of happiness. It was a truly magical day, and I’m so glad I was able to capture it all on camera.
Catherine and Michael, I really admire how you planned every detail of your wedding day to make it so exciting and memorable. Thank you for choosing me as your wedding photographer. I had a great time and it was truly an honor. Congratulations and I wish you both a great life ahead.
