There’s nothing quite like capturing the start of a new chapter of a couple’s love story. And as an engagement photographer, I always feel very privileged to be part of that journey. Susie and Taylor’s Dartmouth College engagement session was incredibly sweet and ‘snow-mantic’. The iconic location was blanketed in snow, and photographing these lovebirds in the place where their love story began was such a special opportunity for me as well.
Susie and Taylor first met at Dartmouth College, where they both attended business school and started out as friends. Reminiscing about their first date, Susie and Taylor said it was difficult to pinpoint where it exactly began. “It depends on what you consider a first date. Technically, our first date was at Hanover’s only nice restaurant, Pine, but we had plenty of outdoorsy dates before then, skiing, traveling, and driving around the upper valley,” Susie said.
When asked about when they realized they were ‘the one’ for each other, Susie spilled some beans, sharing, “He started showing up at my apartment and doing laundry and staying to watch TV. A few months later, I moved to New York for the summer for my internship. Taylor was remote, and he came to visit me for a weekend but stayed the whole summer. After that summer, we knew.”
Recalling their favorite dates other than the proposal, Susie said, “We’ve had every date you can imagine, but my favorite date was the week we spent visiting my family in Slovakia and then training through Europe. Taylor’s favorite dates usually involve a wild travel failure, like when he took me to ‘a spa and brunch’ after a red eye (read: We needed a shower and food, so he took me to the gym and Dunkin’ Donuts outside Times Square where we ate with pigeons) or the time we accidentally had to stay in a Holiday Inn Express in Birmingham, Alabama. It’s safe to say that we have a good time no matter how weird!”
Nothing seems to be off-limits for this adventurous couple! This dynamic duo also has a whole list of things they enjoy doing together. First things first, they kick off their day with a classic New York breakfast of bagels and lox from their local deli. Then, they hit the streets to explore the city and stay in shape working out. But Sundays are reserved for a special treat – pierogies! They either whip up a batch from scratch or indulge in some delicious takeaways. And, when not in New York, they love hitting the slopes and skiing or catching up with friends.
Susie and Taylor’s engagement session at Dartmouth College, where their love story began, was simply perfect. Despite the freezing temperatures (10 degrees!!) and snowfall on the day of the session, I was thrilled to capture the couple’s romance in the gorgeous winter scenery!
The snow-covered campus of Dartmouth College served as the perfect backdrop for this lovely couple. Despite the frigid temperatures, Susie and Taylor made the most of their day, and it seemed like their love for each other kept them super warm. And even if they were freeeeezing, they didn’t let it show in their photos.
Each spot we scouted was more gorgeous than the previous one, offering picture-perfect backdrops that truly complemented the couple’s chemistry. During the engagement session, the lovebirds walked around hand-in-hand, lovingly gazed into each other’s eyes, and made each other laugh out loud the entire time! But the best part about these two was that they kept goofing around! And if you know me, you know I LOVE a couple that isn’t afraid to be a little silly.
“I am looking forward to the ceremony most. Taylor is probably looking forward to seeing me but he won’t admit it,” shared the bride-to-be when I asked about what they were looking forward to the most on their wedding day. Their advice for other couples? “Make it a party!” They’ve chosen Sugarbush Resort for their October wedding, and from the sounds of it, I think this couple will most definitely succeed in turning their wedding day into an unforgettable party.
Susie and Taylor, thank you for choosing me as your engagement photographer. It was certainly an adventure that I will never forget, and even with the freezing temperatures, being with both of you warmed my heart! Congratulations on this new journey in life, and I wish you both a very bright future ahead! Happy wedding planning!
