Portsmouth NH Wedding | Tonicia & Robby

Bride and Groom during their Portsmouth NH Wedding

I’m so excited to share this final 2020 wedding with you!! Tonicia and Robby’s Portsmouth NH Wedding wasn’t just a wedding. It was a New Year’s Eve extravaganza! And it couldn’t have been more amazing!

I was lucky enough to meet Tonicia and Robby at their Cousin’s Wedding in September! Tonicia was the Maid of honor for their wedding, while Monique was Tonicia’s Matron of Honor for hers!

So getting to head back to Portsmouth NH for this wedding was super special! Their energy, their joy, their strong family bonds, their dancing skillsโ€ฆ. it made for the most amazing wedding day!

The Guys….

The First Look

How did you guys meet?
We met on NYE 6 years ago now in 2014! Robby’s roommates were each dating my childhood BFF and her roommate and then he and I connected at the party. We had a blast joking around and laughing the whole night and then eventually had our first kiss after midnight. After that party, Robby wouldn’t let me forget about him. After constant texts and calls, we eventually had our first date in Portsmouth NH. We went Ice skating at the Strawberry Bank and ate at Flatbreads Pizza & Co. After that date, we essentially were attached at the hip!
What was your favorite moment of the day?

I have so many favorite moments! But I think arriving at my first look location and seeing Robby’s back made everything feel so surreal! I almost count believe how amazing and perfect everything felt. I was looking at my future husband in his tux on our wedding day and I couldn’t believe it! It was the most wonderful, overwhelming in the best ways, kind of feeling!

My second favorite would be when I got to kiss my husband for the first time! And walk out of our church together as husband and wife. We got outside and down the steps holding hands and then all of a sudden I just started crying because I was so happy to be married to my best friend in the whole world. It felt so surreal I was just overwhelmed with happiness!
Tell us about your first date!
We went ice skating at Strawberry Bank and then ate lunch at flatbread and co. Robby is a hockey player. And he totally humbly held my hand and cruised around with my much less talented skating skills. (Making sure I didn’t fall since it had been a while since I was on ice skates lol) …I eventually warmed up!
How Did Robby Propose?
We were in Newburyport on the 28th of December 2019. Christmas is my absolute favorite time of year! And we were so excited to be visiting home from Colorado and to have spent that time with our closest family and friends!

Robby is awful at keeping secrets from me! Especially the big exciting ones! He always wants to spill the beans to me immediately, but obviously, he had to keep this one close!
We went to lunch with our two close friends. And, as we were walking along the pier, Robby suggested we get a photo. Normally I would have probably caught on. (But I was so hungover from hanging out with my oldest high school friends the night before..drinking martinis!)

ROBBY asking to take a photo with me didn’t set off any alarms.
Side Note: We had decided that our gift to each other would be to make a special dinner at home. Because we had been trying to save for our future. As our friend went to take the photo Robby got down on one knee. And then he said:

“I hope you didn’t think I didn’t get you anything for Christmas this year”
and the rest I honestly blacked out. I was so shocked! Not only were we getting engaged, but he had somehow completely thrown me off the scent!
I normally can predict all his moves because we know each other so well! Needless to say, I was completely on cloud 9! Everyone suggested we go back to Micheals for some celebratory champagne! I didn’t think anything could possibly be better!
What surprised you most about your Portsmouth NH wedding?

The whole day was just wonderful and honestly mostly stress-free! There were some moments things didn’t go as planned or seamless, but I look back on it as the perfect day. My life and family can tend to be kind of chaotic (LOL) so when I was bopping around the house watching all the girls get ready, sipping on my coffee, face timing with my faraway friends who couldn’t be there, I COULDN’T BELIEVE this was how MY wedding morning was going. It was so relaxing and fun and perfect!
What do you both do for a living?
Rob is a strength & conditioning coach at Seacoast Strength & Conditioning. I am an Esthetician!

Describe your wedding vision!

It was in Portsmouth NH where we celebrating our wedding day on NYE 2020! The pandemic definitely showed us blessings in all of this chaos. And we couldn’t have been happier about where we were married, and the close-knit crew that rang in the new year with us.

My vision was to have a golden warm ambiance with candles and cozy classy elegant feelings everywhere. The dim lighting, floating candles, golden tones scattered, bright white fluffy roses, flowy greenery for daysssss everywhere you look, candlelight and candlesticks! I wanted it to have a magical special intimate feeling no matter how big the space!

Tonicia and Robby held their wedding reception at the new Envio in downtown Portsmouth. It was the perfect location to embrace their visions.

Anything else you would like to share?

We love you Kris!!!!! (AWE!!!!! I love you guys!!)

What advice would you offer other couples planning a wedding?

Accept that little things and scheduling mix-ups will happen. It’s not the end of the world.
Just make a plan. Keep it simple. Make a few backup plans, and don’t focus too much on every little detail.

Surround yourself with ONLY the people who fully support you and get rid of the ones who aren’t fully and only thinking of you on your day. You truly don’t need them!
Our day was so perfect and wonderful because we were truly only surrounded by the most wonderful loving amazing people! Some Significant people were missing. And we held them close in our hearts that day. But I truly believe that’s why everything felt like it went “perfectly”! It was because we were surrounded by only love and giving hearts.

Also, choose what you want to wear, from your dress down to your lip color because if you love everything about bridal you then you will feel incredible the entire day! DO what makes you happy and comfortable no matter what/how many opinions differ from yours! You’ll glow happiness if that’s how you’re feeling in your own skin that day!

Lastly, take in every second! Because it’s over in a blink of an eye and it will be the best day of your life! Take in the faces. The tears. The smiles, The hugs. The laughs. The small and big moments. The feeling of the space you’re in. Just take in Everything, so you can relive it over and over again.

Congratulations!!!
