Besides getting stunning photographs of their big day and offering my couples a memorable photo shoot, my goal is to always be their friend. Creating that comfort level helps them become more confident in front of the camera and sometimes, it even encourages them to come back to me for another photo shoot, just like Sarah and Jr did! After shooting Sarah and Jr’s engagement session at Alyson’s Orchard, I also got to photograph their beautiful intimate wedding at Stone Garden. Having met the couple earlier, I knew the wedding would be an event to remember, and it turned out to be exactly that.
Having photographed Sarah and Jr’s engagement session, I was familiar with what they liked and disliked. Plus, I had a fair idea about the fact that these two weren’t people I could just move from one stiff pose into another (which is also not my style), so taking candids was a big part of their wedding day. The couple had originally planned a larger traditional wedding but later decided they preferred a smaller, more intimate affair, which made Stone Garden an ideal venue for their needs.
Even though they changed the style of their wedding, Sarah and Jr still chose to say “I do” at the same venue they had initially planned for. It was a wonderful ceremony with just their parents and siblings in attendance. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing so many elopements and intimate weddings, and as much as I love big, fat weddings, I especially enjoy the fact that I get to spend more time with just my couple at small weddings. Different backdrops, different lighting, different poses – we get to do it all!
I started my day by taking getting ready photos of my bride and groom. Sarah looked so elegant in her bridal gown, and its train added a touch of drama to it. Also, the lighting in Sarah’s dressing room was sublime! So from detail shots to solo portraits of the bride – I made sure I used natural light to add some whimsical elements to my couple’s wedding day story.
I absolutely loved how relaxed and calm the bride and groom were the entire day. Sarah and Jr shared a first look, which was just heart-melting. As Jr turned around, they both gave each other the biggest hug, which very clearly said, “I love you, and I can’t wait to marry you!”
After taking some couples portraits, Sarah and Jr got married to the Connecticut River as a backdrop, which was perfect for the photos I captured of these lovebirds as they went from being bride and groom to husband and wife. No matter how well planned, people usually expect something to go wrong on the wedding day – whether it’s a broken button on the bride’s dress or a missing dessert cart. But things were easy breezy at Sara and Jr’s wedding. It was a lovely, low-key, and absolutely no-stress day.
One of the highlights of this intimate wedding was that even with few people, the place was filled with good vibes. Everyone was there to celebrate the amazing couple and just to have a good time together. After the ceremony, everyone celebrated with a champagne toast while congratulating the couple.
Another sweet thing about Sarah and Jr’s wedding was the fact that everyone, including the newlyweds, treated themselves to some ice cream at the famous and local Stuart and John’s Sugar House. Sarah and Jr are such a laid-back couple, and I could totally see them ending their special day in this way. I guess as they were enjoying their ice cream, there came a moment when both of them realized that they were actually married because they had the biggest smiles on their faces, which didn’t fade away till the end. And the photos I took in those moments are a testament to their bond. Just fun, easy, and loving.
Sarah and Jr, thank you for choosing me as your wedding photographer. It was wonderful shooting your wedding and engagement session, and I had a fantastic experience getting to know both of you. Congratulations again, and I wish you both a beautiful, happy married life together.
